I love to see what I can get out of a skein. Souk is one of our new yarns for Fall 2013 - a silk-wool blend with a tweedy texture. Each 220 yard skein shifts through 8 colors and there are 14 colorways to choose from. Previously I'd created an Infinity scarf from 1 skein and wanted to try to do a quick shawlette. The beauty of this yarn is that it does most of the work and simple patterns do best.

I've been studying this shawl. It's very beautiful, however I seem to be having a senior moment. If you cast on 3 and start from top how does it grow? Starting from the bottom makes sense but then the edging is last. Please set me straight here!
ReplyDeleteYou increase 4 stitches every other row. There are 4 YOs on the increase rows.
ReplyDeleteWhen starting lace portion of this pattern, I have 68 stiches on each side of markers. It appears by the lace pattern, there should be 67. Is there a correction for this pattern.
DeleteI will tweak - thanks - at this point, just knit 1 more stitch before and after the marker and it should work out.
DeleteI'm working on this shawl now---are there any corrections?
ReplyDeleteI've done the math on this pattern 4 times, and I believe that if the pattern is done correctly one should have a total of 133 stitches before the edging. That would be 66 on each side, plus the center stitch. Your edging calls for 67 stitches each side. I'm concerned that if I simply eliminate one stitch somewhere the edging will not work out correctly. Help!

DeleteWhat does the '2 times' refer to? Is it everything from the beginning bracket, or just the (sl1, k1, psso)? Also, should it be (YO, K1) 2 times rather than 3 times? I've tried to chart it, and the only way it seems to come out as a 19-stitch repeat is if I do: *K2tog, K2tog, (YO, K1) 2 times, YO, (sl1, K1, psso) 2 times* repeat from *, K1.
ReplyDeleteSorry for all of the confusion - I just updated the pattern - I made the mistake of trying to edit it while jet lagged and that did not work very well. The lace pattern is a multiple of 12 + 1.
ReplyDeleteI am really confused as it seems to me that people are getting different counts before starting the lace pattern. I am almost to where I have - "You will have 129 stitches on your needles when you start the Lacey Edge – 64 on each side of the stitch marker – this will leave 63 stitches for the Lacey Edge" 64 on each side and one in the middle equal 129 stitches. I don't understand the "63 stitches for the Lacey Edge" At this point my shawl does not look very big and if I want to increase the stitches before the lacey edge how do I do that? Is it by adding 12 more to EACH side or 6 to EACH side +1 would equal the 12+1 .?
ReplyDeleteThe pattern was relatively easy - and all the math worked out fine. However, there is no way no how that the size looks anywhere near what the picture looks like and I knit quite loosely. I am in process of wet blocking as I write, but was unable to stretch and pull it to the right size. Disappointed.
ReplyDeleteSo I read through all the comments & am ready to start this shawl. BUT interestingly enough the pattern still says you should have 129 stitches when you start the lacey edging AND cascade says you should have a multiple of 12 +1.......129 isn't a multiple of 12 +1 where as among the comments, the 133 IS a multiple of 12 + 1. This is frustrating if I am copying a pattern that isn't correct that is from another website (where this has been posted without comments). So I "presume" the correct number is 133?????
