Stitches West Fashion Show Part 1 - The Afghans!

Stitches West 2011 Fashion Show - Part 1

I always enjoy going to Stitches - I have been at the Cascade Yarns booth for a few years now (Cascade has been a sponsor for years).  Stitches West is always crazy - but in a good way - lots of excited knitters and beautiful projects.  I was particularly excited about this Stitches West since both The Great North American Afghan and The Great American Kid's Afghan were being re-released after being reknit in our yarns.  Each new afghan offers color options for 3 different yarns.  To add to my excitement - both afghans concluded the fashion show.

The new books premiered at Stitches West, but should be starting to arrive at your LYS.  The North American Afghan is shown in Cascade 220 and has additional colorways suggested for Lana d'Oro and Sierra.  The original colorway (from the first addition) was also listed in Cascade 220.

It was fun talking to some of the XRX staff (including Rick and Karen) and listening to them talk about who knit which squares.  They did a beautiful job.  I am partial to the Great North American Afghan (I love the new colorway - although I would probably knit it in Lana d'Oro if I ever find the time).  However, I am dreading when my 5 year old sees the picture of the Great American Kid's Afghan - I suspect he will definitely want one.

Both of these are great for knit-alongs and classes.  It is also fun to mix and match your favorite squares from the four books to create your own afghan or even just make a really cool pillow or two.

The Great American Kid's Afghan is shown in 220 Superwash.  There are additional colorways available in Sierra (several different options) and Pacific - our new Acrylic/Merino Superwash blend.

  1. These are so beautiful! I love, love, love Cascade yarn, and I am very excited to see the books. I am a huge fan of Cascade 220 - these afghans might just be the turning point for me to try some new knitting techniques.

  2. Shannon and company,
Just a heads up that the colors are so much richer than in the photos, the stage lighting of course washes the colors out.
These are true stunners... and the kids version also has a girly pink version and one for the guys.
