Free Yarn Giveaway: Streak of Lightning Log Cabin throw!

Beth Whiteside designed the cover blanket - Streak of Lightning in All Season Throws - a special interest issue from Creative Knitting.  The blocks - Sunshine & Shadow are built with dark colors on one side and light on the other.  

This modern take on a Log Cabin is knit in 220 Superwash - which works well for today's busy lifestyles.

Cascade Yarns is giving away the yarn and the pattern to make this fabulous throw!  All you have to do is comment with your favorite project you have in Cascade Yarns.  The comment must be posted between 9 am EST August 20, 2013 and 9 am EST August 21, 2013. 

This winner will be anounced later this week on the blog and Facebook and Twitter.




The prize will include a Cascade Yarns zipper bag and the following colors of 220 Superwash:

  • 6 balls 825 - Orange
  • 6 balls 822 - Pumpkin
  • 6 balls 841 - Moss
  • 6 balls 810 - Teal

    Cascade was the first "real" yarn (read-"non-craft-store") I used, and I return to it all the time. It is my first-love yarn!

What a beautiful coincidence to find Streak of Lightning on your blog. It's really a gorgeous interpretation of the log cabin design!

  62. I made a really pretty cardigan with Cascade 220. Unfortunately I didn't check my gauge so it is a little small. It was the first sweater I ever made and an educational experience. I now knit gauge swatches and it gave me a lot of confidence to complete a project like that! I also made a really pretty scarf that I will enjoy this coming winter with some 220. Love the softness and stretch!

  64. My favourite Cascade project is the first sweater I knit without a pattern. It's in purple 220, a bit itchy, so I use it as an outside sweater, always worn over something. I love it. Top-down raglan with 3/4 length sleeves. Classic! Special mention goes to my first project EVER, a catnip whale knit out of Cascade 220 green heather. It's ripped almost to shreds but my cat still pulls it out of hiding now and again. It's a keeper! ~ knittingwithwords on Ravelry

  67. Oh my! My favorite Cascade 220 project has to be the Baby Fisherman Sweater in your 60 quick baby projects. I've made two of them and just love the cables!!! One was made in purple and the other was blue. Cascade 220 is our favorite worsted weight for socks!! Erika

  69. My first and only attempt at knitting argyle in the round was a hat (complete with ear flaps and a pompom on top) that I knit for my then boyfriend, now husband. Since then, I've been slowly adding to my Cascade stash for a "someday blanket." I'm currently working on a cotton log cabin blanket for my baby boy, but I would love to make a wool blanket to keep by the couch for family snuggles!

  72. Hmm.. this one is kinda hard... I have a fondness for so many cascade products... EcoDuo.. EcoAlpaca... However, I did Ruby Red out of a Cascade book out earlier this year .. out of Cascade 128 SW.. very yummy.. made it bigger for ME.... and then a huge squishy log cabin throw out of MAGNUM... Extremely warm... Live in Texas, but I don't care.. it is a fabulous throw.

  76. The throw is gorgeous - I knitted a big Irish flag as a joke present for some rugby friends using Cascade 220 - the orange is perfect!
    It had its world première at Twickenham a couple of years ago at a Six nations match but during the celebrations that followed, the idiots left it in a pub. I have always wondered what happened to it. Bit like a Mayfly - it only lived for a day but what a day!It even appeared on TV during the match, talk about .15 seconds of fame.....
    I would take much better care of this lovely throw.

  86. I recently found out that the comparable replacement for my lifetime favorite Germantown worsted wool is Cascade 220! That is when I added you to my favorites list. I have not yet started using Cascade 220 but like the person who commented right above me, I am sure looking forward to it!   88. I have made Vintage Rabbit from Cascade 220 - it looked just like the Velveteen Rabbit! (a baby gift) and Henry's Rabbit (also a baby gift) from 220. Now I have Dances with Yellow (Cascade Ultra Pima) ready to go... I have the yarn and the pattern but I have promised to finish 3 other projects first... lol!

    I love that Streak of Lightning throw!!! I live in a log home and it would be absolutely perfect! If I don't win it, I may have to do it anyways! (I can hear my DH moaning as I write this!) Why do most men just not "get it" about knitting?

    My all time favorite project with Cascade yarn is your Flirty Skirt Pattern, free on your website using Cascade 220 in a heather spice color (can't remember the exact color, but one of my favorite go to colors). My friends are making it too. I wore it to Vogue Knitting Live and got so many compliments on it. It is so easy to make, looks fantastic and takes no time to make.

  137. I love to use Cascade 220 for finglerless mitts and hats - I especially like to use the superwash for non-knitting and crocheting friends. That way when they throw them in the wash they don't end up becoming felted doll clothes!

  145. My favorite Cascade project was a sweater made in 220. I designed it with Feather and Fan for the hem and sleeve cuffs, with three mini-cables up the front and back. Across the chest, I used purl stitches to create a message in Braille that read, "No, you may not read my sweater!" :)

  152. Many of my socks are Heritage, bought 220 last year at the WEBS tent sale and just got 220 from WEBS during their sale this year. I'd take a guess and say I like the Cascade yarns. The quality is definitely there.

  158. I made Felted Flip Flops by Kelly Jensen in Cascade 220 Paints in colorway Green Mix. I made these for a close friend who was pregnant at the time and her feet were too swollen for shoes. She had the baby later that year on my birthday - and then named me the baby's Godfather!! :-) He's now 3 years old (and I won't way how old I am!!)

  162. My favorite Cascade yarn project is a tote I made from a Knitter's magazine pattern. It looked like patchwork and is felted. I made it in fall colors and took first prize at our county fair. I always get compliments whenever I use it.

  165. After a few prayer shawls of masculine colors, I completed a shawl based on scarf pattern using pink and green (aka preppy colors) from 220 Superwash.

    Recently I discovered an unfinished blanket The pattern used blocks of purple, gold, and white from 220 Superwash. I plan to complete it this fall.

  177. I use Cascade a lot...but my latest project is the Sideways Ripple shawl I made with Cascade 220. I chose Cascade because of the huge color selection, and I wanted just the right shades of gray and yellow. It's perfect!

  182. My favorite project for Cascade 220? A very warm and comfy set of Pretty in Polka Dots Fingerless Gloves by Brittany Jones on Ravelry! I substituted the colors buttercup and natural for the recommended materials, Vickie Howell's Sheepish Yarn in (Yellow)ish and Red Heart Shimmer in Ivory.

  190. I love the 220 yarns. In wool I have made a sweater a a couple of felted purses. In Venezia, I've made a lace wrap, in the retro another sweater, in the super wash, I've made slippers and a another sweater. I have a tub of Cascade, from sock to bulky. I hope I win!
