Cheryl Beckerich Knits

Knit in 220 Superwash - 100% Superwash Wool -220 yds/100 g

"This hat is worked from the bottom up, and is done using stranded color work," says Beckerich (with modest brevity). But there's much to love about it. There's the bright colourway she's chosen, to evoke springtime as winter approaches (though it would look very macho in different tones); the classic motifs; and the ease of making.

Knit in Cascade 220 - 100% Peruvian Highland Wool -220 yds/100 g
Short Hat - 1 skein ecru - 8010
Long Hat - 1 skein Turtle - 2452

Amanda designed a slouch hat that is as "visually interesting as it is warm."  There are 8 small cables that gradually taper off "like vines".  Larger cable panels incorporate moss stitch and open up to the bloom that covers the top of the hat.  Adjusting the number of pattern rows allows you to make anything from a snug beanie to a tam using this pattern.

Uakari - Designed by Rachel Erin

Uakari
Designed by Rachel Erin
Available for sale on Patternfish and Ravelry

Knit in 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Wool - 220 yds/100 g) - shown in 872 (2-4 sks) and 873 (1 sk)

Available in sizes 3 mo - 6T

"Realistic enough for pretend, practical enough for everyday," says Erin. "Uakari (a genus of Brazilian monkeys) is knit in pieces and seamed, before the hood is picked up and knit. Short row shaping keeps the hood on comfortably regardless of monkey business. Pockets and ears are knit separately and sewed on at the end. The buttonband and buttonholes are knit as you go. If you put the ears on the top of the hood-- it looks like a bear!" Beyond cute, and Erin writes a splendid thorough pattern with lots of helpful links.

Patternfish - Autumn Breezes by Sarah Franklin

Autumn Breezes (Cuff Down)
Designed by Sarah Franklin

Knit in Heritage (75% Superwash Merino Wool/25% Nylon - 437 yds/100 g) - shown in color 5617 - 1 skein
"My favorite things about fall are the cool breezes and watching the leaves change colors," says Franklin. "Fall also means that it is time to break out the socks to keep my feet warm on cool evenings. These socks capture all that I love about fall. They feature a falling leaf motif, a simple cable, and color that reminds me of all the autumn leaves." In this very pretty design Franklin uses an unconventional 'cable' technique (terribly easy to work) that does not require the use of a separate cable needle, and an eye-of-partridge heel for even more stitch interest. Lovely and fun to work.

One skein projects make wonderful gifts - they're affordable and usually fairly quick to make.  This hat is adorable, designed for tweens and teens (finished measurements are 20" circumference by 8" tall).  The cables add a wonderful texture and dimensionality to the hats (and may even impress some of the recipients of the gift).

Knit in Magnum (100% Peruvian Highland Wool -123 yds/250 g) - shown in color 9454 (Rainier Heather) - 1 skein

A challenge from her sister inspired Allison to create The One Scarf.  The "one-ended" scarf is a great option for anyone that normally pulls the ends through a folded scarf.  Even better, it only requires one skein and Magnum knits up very quickly.

Petrel - Caterpillar Knits

Petrel
Designed by Kristen TenDyke

Knit in Eco Wool - 100% Undyed Peruvian Highland Wool -478 yds/250 g - shown in 8010 1-2 hanks

Finished Measurements:approx 22 (27½, 29½)" [56 (70, 75) cm] long
44 (55, 59)" [112 (139.5, 150) cm] wide

This beautiful lace shawl begins at the center top edge with a provisional cast on. A few rows are worked in the cable panel. Stitches are picked up along the side of the cable panel, then the provisional stitches are picked up. Stitches are increased along each outer edge, and along the center cable panel to shape the shawl. Short rows are worked to complete each point at the lower edge of the shawl. Stiches are cast on then bound off for the knots at the point of each tip.

In the Loop Scarf - Dawn Brocco

In the Loop
Designed by Dawn Brocco

This is another great skill-building design. The lace pattern consists of 3 simple stitches which are repeated on every row. The quirky construction makes the fabric reversible, so the fabric peeking through the keyhole openings on both sides of the scarf never show a wrong side.

Whether chunky and casual, silky and elegant, or romantically light as a feather, this scarf can complement any outfit. So, knit it short, knit it long, knit it fine, knit it thick - the design is very adjustable. Samples show Medium, Long, and Even Longer lengths!

Opening October 7th at gallery hanahou -Greetings from Mochimochi by Anna Hrachovec!

Greetings from Mochimochi
a weird world of fun and chaos hand-knitted by Anna Hrachovec

Craft artist Anna Hrachovec will unveil a hand-knitted installation made out of 200 balls of yarn (supplied by Cascade Yarns) and more than a million stitches.

October 7 - 29, 2010
Opening reception: Thursday, October 7, 7-9 p.m. - RSVP info@galleryhanahou.com

gallery hanahou
611 Broadway, Suite 730, NYC

In her first solo show, craft artist Anna Hrachovec stretches the possibilities of knitting as a medium to create an expansive and wacky landscape installation. Crash-landed aliens, rat-infested skyscrapers, giant ants, and everything else that comprises the 8-foot installation is entirely hand-knitted by the artist, who used 200 balls of yarn and more than a million stitches to make it all come to life. And just for fun, the piece includes a working model train  - converted into a silly knitted monster, of course!

Some of the elements in the piece are based on designs in Anna's 2010 book of knitted toy patterns, Knitting Mochimochi.

About Anna Hrachovec

Anna divides her time between designing the patterns that she shares with an enthusiastic crafting community and creating more complex one-off knitted pieces for exhibition.

Relying as much on experimentation as on traditional crafting techniques, Anna is always looking for ways to stretch the knitting medium into new territories. Anna’s one-of-a-kind knitted toys have been shown at galleries around the US and in Tokyo. "Greetings from Mochimochi" will be her first solo show.
