Happy Memorial Day! Helmetliners

Helmetliner Original Pattern designed by Bonnie Long Materials:  Any soft, worsted wool yarn that will knit to gauge, such as Cascade 220 .  Only 100% soft wool yarn will be accepted, because our ground forces are not allowed to wear synthetic fibers. Wool is inherently non-flammable and won’t melt against the skin in the event of an accident and is warm even when wet. Colors:  Black is preferred but charcoal, brown, tan, gray or combinations of these colors are also allowed by our Armed Forces. Gauge: 4.5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch To date, more than 23,000 heltmetliners have been shipped overseas (by Citizen Sam).  There are currently more than 200,000 troops in overseas theaters where they are subjected to sub-zero wind chills during the winter and extreme heat in the summer.  Finished items may be sent year-round to Citizen SAM, PO Box 10565, Peoria, IL 61612.

Snooter-Doots

Snooter-Doots Gina discovered Snooter-doots™ recently while using up some left over yarn to make a toy for her ‘grand-dog’. The name is her daughter’s creation. She started telling me stories about Popipity the Squirrel and the Snooter-doots when she was just five or six years old. What a grand imagination! She vowed to myself those twenty-five years ago to expand the Snooter-doot tales into a book some day, but  never really knew what they looked like, so the idea just sat there..... Snooter-doots are handcrafted, whimsical ‘creatures’ for kids of ALL ages. No two are alike. Each has personality with its own name and birthday. Snooter-doots and their Snooter-friends are all natural, handmade from felted wool in Seattle, WA. They are all looking for a good home; adopt one today! Some patterns are also available for purchase.  Many Snooter-Doots are made with Cascade 220.

Patternfish - Kid's Simple Pullover - Keep It Simple Designs

KS133 Kids' Simple Pullover (ages 2 - 12) Designed by:  Barbara Selesnick for Keep It Simple Designs Knit in Cascade 220 "The sweaters are similar construction with accent striping in different areas," says Selesnick. "You can create several different sweaters that will look great on every child. Or get wild and combine both stripe patterns to create a design of your own!" The shape is terribly simple, with only a bit of back neck (and the usual front neck, of course) shaping to make you think a bit. Otherwise all is straight lines, drop shoulders, and simple sewing. All this ease is really perfect for kids, who are rather rectangular themselves.
